I'm sure most of you know the Warp and Weft quilt was my first pattern release, and while I love picking colours, being a newbie quilt designer, I probably didn't think through how hard it might be for other people to choose their own for this quilt. Consequently, I only ever saw versions of the original colourway, inspired by the cochineal dyes and weaving of Oaxaca. You can see my photo journal of making the original Kaffe Fassett, Rowan shot cotton one here.
I figured ...

There are many great how-to tutorials out there. I chose these two YouTube videos as my favorites—
Jenny at the Missouri Star Quilt Company and
Laura Ann Cioa at Sew Very Easy.
After watching both, I decided to “merge” their info together to make my own Disappearing 4-Patch. Here’s how…
Jenny (MSQC) has you use a charm pack in her version, while Laura (Sew Very Easy) has you cut larger squares from fat ...

We’ve got brand new kits in my fabric collection, Nocturne with QT Fabrics, inspired by one of you! We saw one of our customers upload their take on Congruence with Nocturne, fell in love and decided we needed one too!
Congruence is a no-neutral quilt where you split the fabrics into equal colorways to create equilateral triangles. Then the 60-degree triangles are sewn together in horizontal rows, making it about as easy as you can get with NO ...
read moreTwinkle is one of my favorite patterns in my best-selling book Fat Quarter Workshop. It is a large scale block that features two colliding stars.
The design of the block makes it great for fabric collections that have a lot of low volume neutrals that don’t offer a lot of value contrast with the background. We use them in the center of the block and the darker fabrics as the star points to clearly define the block and all all the fabrics to shine.
The original fabric in the book quilt is long gone, so we remade Twinkle for ...

Monika is an accomplish illustrator who was recruited by Anna Maria Horner to become a fabric designer when she was building her Conservatory Craft collective for FreeSpirit Fabrics.
We talk about the development of her career, how she made big changes when she became a mother, how she manages to stay diversified so she can make a living as an artist and how creating a fabric collection was a long-time dream since she sewed with her mother as a girl in Sweden ...

The fat quarter friendly pattern uses strip piecing and just a teeny bit of mindful cutting to make sure your favorite motifs are front and center in the final quilt. That means you can show off your favorite prints with NO FUSSY CUTTING!
I turned in my third book to my publisher last week so I got a late start on the quilt and was able to make the entire quilt start to finish in two ...

For our third make of Christmas we are replaying our tutorial for Ribbon Candy, a modern, fat quarter friendly holiday quilt that is perfect for using up all your extra Christmas fabric or that holiday fat quarter bundle you just had to have.
About half of the quilt is strip pieced so it goes quickly, it really shows off large prints well and a neutral strip between every fabric means you can pack a lot of fabrics in while still giving the eye a place to rest.
Ribbon Candy was originally designed as part of the Stashin’ with Stephanie Club ...

If you’ve ever made one and found that the outside strips just seem to be too long, then you’ll know exactly what I mean about wonky log cabins. With all the seams, it is super easy for your log cabin blocks to get off in size and for the strips to stretch out as you sew and press.
I show you how to have perfect blocks every time by cutting your log cabin strips on ...

I’ve also managed to find a fabulous collection of fabric that captures the spirit of the original version of Frequency, our most popular Stashin’ with Stephanie pattern ever that starts off the book. So we’ve brought back quilt kits in the fabulous Silverstone by by Vanessa Lillrose and Linda Fitch for Robert Kaufman Fabrics.

I have many large Christmas quilts and was looking for something I could hang on a wall or use as a throw. So, I designed the Tree of Joy Christmas quilt pattern. I finally got the binding done this weekend while listening to a book. Then, I left the house looking for a cool place to photograph it. I forgot to ...

Vintage Chic
I updated my pattern Vintage Chic using the Art Inspired: Music, Blue and Pink No. 2 collection by Anthology Fabrics and I think it is looking hot! The quilt measures 62-1/2″ x 76″ and the blocks finish at 12″. This is a good throw size quilt or lap quilt.
You only need to make flying geese – diagrams show how – and the center blocks are made of four ...

read moreThe design for Reflection came to me in the middle of the night while feeding my newborn daughter. It was back when life was normal, and I thought a rainbow bargello would be a fantastic way to highlight the beautiful color transitions in Midsommar by Pippa Shaw for Figo.
Now that we are all stuck indoors for the foreseeable future, I feel like a bright rainbow quilt is the perfect antidote to the blues that can come with social distancing. And since it is a quick project, you can snuggle under it and feel better soon when it is done ...
